Masterpiece in the Making

An unfinished work of art.

Make each day your masterpiece. John Wooden

The great and glorious masterpiece of man is to know how to live to purpose. Michel de Montaigne

I challenge you to make your life a masterpiece. I challenge you to join the ranks of those people who live what they teach, who walk their talk. Anthony Robbins

Each of us is tasked with finishing an unfinished work of art. Our role in life is to finish the task started by nature, carried on by our parents, assisted by others along the way; and ultimately passed on to us. Each of has the raw potential and is a masterpiece waiting to be finished. It is our responsibility to finish the task.

We start as unpainted canvas, non-descript marble, or perhaps as shapeless clay. Our parents contribute the raw material to this unique, never to be repeated, potential work of art. Everything is there, a magnificent diamond in the rough; there is great potential and possibilities are almost infinite. We are a work in progress; this beauty and potential within can only be brought forth with dedicated heart and soul. No one can do this for us; we must finish the work. When masterpiece is used as a description, it means that much thought, many hours of toil, even blood, sweat and tears were expended to create a one of a kind work of art. Masterpieces do not get created by chance, random occurrence, or by rolling the dice. They only result from painstaking care, attention to every detail; endless hours of effort, with nothing being compromised. Masterpieces only result when the task or project receives the absolute best, with nothing held back and nothing left to chance.

Our two greatest responsibilities in life are artistic in nature. Our primary purpose is to complete the fine masterpiece we were meant to be. Equally important is utilizing all our abilities and skills to help shape, mold and positively influence our children. We are not totally responsible for the finished work that our children do or do not become. We are totally accountable for unconditionally loving, nurturing and guiding them. Our number one responsibility is to finish the unfinished work that exists in each of us. This falls squarely on our own shoulders. No matter where we find ourselves or whatever we become; we are responsible for finishing this job.

Some take responsibility seriously, many do not. Whatever happens or does not happen, whether we live to our potential or not, achieve or do not achieve, are successful or unsuccessful, happy or unhappy, when it all over; the finished work belongs to us. It has our name on it. It was totally our responsibility to finish the task.

Challenge: Life is no free ride. You are responsible for your own lot. It does fall squarely on your shoulders. You cannot escape responsibility. Whatever happens in your life, good or bad, belongs to you. If the quality of your life is unsatisfactory and unacceptable, it is up to you to do something about it. You can wait around and be a victim or you can seize the bull by the horns, take charge, and do something about it. It is ultimately up to you.

Wisdom: Winners have the ability to step back from the canvas of their lives like an artist gaining perspective. They make their lives a work of art / an individual masterpiece. Dennis Waitley

 Spiritual: (NIV)

The fruit of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever. Isaiah 32:17

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you. Ps 32:8

I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13

The raw material that becomes each of us comes from God. The process that produces each of us is ordained by God. The Bible tells us that we are made in his image; there is some of him in each of us. Not only that, He is our Heavenly Father and always watches over us. He is there to help, direct, and enable us. We have free will and must choose to want his help. We can never be a masterpiece without his skillful guidance and advice.

Prayer: Help me to become that which you designed me to be.
