A proper balance is needed. We need to keep a good perspective of all those things that make up our life. It is like baking a cake; it calls for a proper mix of various ingredients, put together in the right quantities and order, under proper conditions, time and temperature. There is a best method process for making and baking a beautiful and delicious cake.
No matter how we look at it, life is very complicated. Each one of us must balance an inner and outer self. We must love and respect our self in order to be well-balanced. If we go overboard or “under-board”, we will have personality disorders. We have a good side and a bad side, a Jekyll and a Hyde. We have to keep them in balance and under control. It requires time and attention to maintain balance and well-being. There is need to balance the physical and mental. This means we devote resources to working on the development of our minds as well as our bodies. We have to exercise, maintain, and develop our minds and or bodies in harmony with each other.
As adults, “balance” is a juggling act. Our lives are filled with many needs and demands: For many the big three are family, work, and possessions or money. There are endless things to balance: standard of living versus income, retirement versus children’s education, credit cards versus cash, debt versus debt-free, high paying job versus well liked job and many, many more. There is also the quantity versus quality issue. Do we want our lives to be centered on the quality of how we live or the quantity of the things we do? Life’s issues and needs are seemingly endless. It sometimes becomes mind-boggling to keep a proper perspective and sense of balance.
Proper balance is very tough. Our mental health and well-being is at stake as individuals, as families, and as a society. There are few blacks and white answers. We need to throw into this mix a need for meaning and purpose; something to live for and to believe in. Out of balance is a very complex problem that is difficult to describe, much less to solve. Each of us is responsible to find our own answers as to what constitutes a balanced life. It is something that warrants our time and focused attention on a regular and ongoing basis.
Challenge: One of the most important things you can do is to take control. Control life instead of being controlled. This is the most important step. Become the driver instead of the passenger, the wind instead of the leaf. Determine what is most important; determine and commit to your values and principles. Lay a firm foundation. Draw a line in the sand, stand firm. Turn the tide and take charge. Be proactive not passive.

Life without God will never be a life in balance. This is an absolute and unmistakable truth. We were made in God’s image and with some of him in us. If we choose to ignore this, we will never live in harmony. When we answer God’s call in our life, we will begin to find balance. We start becoming what he intended us to be. The ways of the world lead to discord and confusion. God’s way leads us to peace, harmony, and joy.
