   How many decisions and choices do we make during our lifetime? How many of our choices will prove to be wrong? How would it change things if the quality of our choices became better?  How might that affect the quality of our lives?

   It is possible to be too deliberate and cautious. Some suffer from indecisiveness. Others make choices with little or no thought or deliberation. Our choices have consequences. We have to live with the results and the consequences. It stands to reason that life would become more efficient and enjoyable if we learned to make better choices. Even small improvements in our decisions about the most critical and sensitive things would directly benefit our quality of life. How much pain and misery for ourselves and others could we avoid?

   We are who we are because of our choices, good and bad. Each of us is where we are because of our track record, our victories and losses. History has many examples of the consequences of bad decisions that were made. Hitler was allowed to advance and occupy much of Europe because world leaders failed to make tough choices. Slavery, discrimination, genocide and other wrongs continue to exist because the right choices are not being made. Societal wrongs and undesirable circumstances exist, because of bad decisions or the unwillingness to make the right decisions.

   Too often we choose convenience, instant gratification, ego and immediate pleasure, as our criteria for our decisions. We lack self-discipline and motivation. Short sightedness and lack of focus handicaps us. We choose short term gratification and procrastination over long term betterment. Common sense indicates we should strive to make the best choices possible as often as possible. We should never forget that many of our choices not only affect us; they also affect others, such as family and loved ones and others who may depend upon us.

   It should be our desire to make better choices and decisions. The consequences, both short term and long term should always be considered. Facts, situations, circumstances, worst case scenarios, anything and everything that can help us make better decisions should be considered. Timing, postponing, or reconsidering are parts of the process. Is there advice to seek? Are there tools or other aids to utilize? The point is to be committed to improving the quality of the choices we make. It will be well worth our time and effort.


Challenge: How often do you make bad choices? The more often it is, the more your decision making process is at fault. Improve your decisions by improving your decision making process. There is much to gain and nothing to lose. Better decisions equal a better quality of life. Little improvements can add up to make big differences. Learn to be more disciplined and consciously aware of how you are making choices. Be more careful.

The best advice we can ever acquire comes from God. He never advises us to make bad decisions. It is his will and purpose for us to become the beautiful person he created us to be. We will make our share of bad decisions and fall flat on our faces. When we make our bad decisions, God will forgive us, help pick us up, dust us off and get us going on the right path again. His help is always there. All we have to do is to ask for it.
