When the passions become masters, they are vices. Blaise Pascal
If passion drives you, let reason hold the reins. Benjamin Franklin
A genuine passion is like a mountain stream; it admits of no impediment; it cannot go backward; it must go forward. Christian Nestell Bovee
Our passions tend to become our greatest virtues or our strongest vices. Having a passion for something can be a blessing or a curse. It is its own source of continuous energy. Passions that can be bridled and harnessed can be a way that allows us to accomplish great and wonderful things.
Passion and motivation go hand in hand. That which we are motivated to do is that which we have typically developed great passion to do. It gives us a source of energy and enthusiasm that allows us to forge forward. It helps us through obstacles, adversities and trials and tribulations. It prevents us from being sidetracked or stopped. We are compelled to move forward. Passions fit in well with principles and purposes. When passion is a part of the things we really believe in and are committed to, we achieve and accomplish often beyond our dreams and expectations. Most of us have done or accomplish things that were greatly enhanced because of the passion we had for it. Special causes, projects, or tasks were accomplished because we were filled with heart-felt passion. Our spouse, children, our businesses, spiritual lives, political views, hobbies or crafts; are the kinds of things that we tend to become most passionate about. Leaders who exhibit and induce passion in others tend to rise to the top and have others passionately following them as they go. Passion is very strong motivation.
Some have a passion for things that are undesirable and unwise. Addictions, vices, bad habits can be the result of uncontrolled passions expended on the wrong things. We have to be careful in what it is that we allow ourselves to become passionate about. Our passions do need to be directed toward good and worthwhile things.
Having a commitment to become the best person we can become is a desirable way to tap the powers of passion. Personal growth and development and living life with meaning and purpose are good things to become passionate about. Our natural tendency is to accept the status quo and to stay entrenched in our comfort zones. It goes against the grain to be passionately motivated to develop our capabilities and abilities. Feelings of accomplishment, joy and happiness can be the fruits of a passionate commitment to overcoming stagnancy and complacency. We should develop a passion to live life to the fullest and reap the benefits.
Challenge: Consider those things you are really passionate about? Think about the energy it gives you. If you are not utilizing passion, you are shortchanging yourself. The things most important to you deserve your best effort. Start passionately utilizing your talents and abilities. Add the excitement and sense of anticipation that comes from committing to personal growth and development. Become the wonderful person waiting inside you.
Wisdom: A strong passion for any object will ensure success, for the desire of the end will point out the means. William Hazlitt
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea. Psalm 46:1-2
The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him. Lamentations 3:25
Develop a passion to walk with the Lord, and the path to a better life becomes more visible. Become passionate about becoming the best that you can become and you will gain additional strength and wisdom in order to live life more fully. Throw off the chains of status quo and complacency and be prepared for your life to take on more meaning and purpose. God did not make us to be vegetables. He made us to make things happen.
Prayer: Help me to use the talents and abilities you have given me and to be passionate about using them.
