Second Chances

Being given another opportunity after failing; an opportunity to get it right the second time

We all have big changes in our lives that are more or less a second chance. Harrison Ford

Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending. Carl Bond

Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.    Oprah Winfrey

We should be very grateful for second chances. As much as we like to get them for ourselves we should also be willing to give them to others. Opportunities to start all over again, to learn from our mistakes, to get it right the second time; everyone needs second chances.

As long as people are trying to do what is right, they should be given amble opportunities whenever possible. Sometimes we do not quite get it right. Often we do not realize the importance of something until we have lost it, squandered it, or taken it for granted. Often it takes falling on our faces, having bad things happen or losing something important. Life sometimes humbles us and brings us down to our knees and forces us to get a fresh grip on things.

Most of us have had second chances. It is likely we have gotten something right after getting to try again. We should be very appreciative of our fresh starts.  Second chances are a form of forgiveness. They often happen because someone cares enough to give us another chance. We should remember second chances we have been given. After getting it right the second time we should be very grateful. One reason we need second chances is because we take things too much for granted, are selfish, self-centered or do not invest the time and effort that was really required. Regrettably, we often have to lose something in order to appreciate what it was that we lost. Ebenezer Scrooge is a classic example of someone who was able to take full advantage of his second chance.

Second chances sometimes are forced upon us. They may be in the form of needing to find new relationships and other changes. We lose a part of our life that has to be replaced even though we did not want such a change to take place.  Sometime we reach rock bottom and are forced to start over again. We get presented brand new opportunities to do better. If we did not learn from our previous experiences, we may be doomed to suffer the same results. We should always learn from our failures as well as our successes. Our failures are often our most profound and most effective learning experiences. Take advantage of life’s second chances. Be grateful for them.

Challenge:  Life is full of challenges that will include both failures and successes. Each should be a learning experience. Sometimes, you will fail initially before you can learn to get it right. The important thing is that you do not quit. Get back up and do it again. You have not failed unless you quit or give up. Some of your greatest successes wait for you. Learn to appreciate the second chances you are given. Learn to give them to others.

Wisdom:   If you have made mistakes, even serious ones, there is always another chance for you. What we call failure is not the falling down but the staying down. Mary Pickford

Spiritual: (NIV)

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.  Philippians 1:6

For if you forgive men when they sin against you, you heavenly Father will also forgive you.  Matthew 6:14

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline.  2 Timothy 1:7

God wants us to get it right. He gives us unlimited opportunities. He never gives up on us. He wants us to get our lives straightened out and going in the right direction. He loves us so much he willingly died on the cross to give us the ultimate second chance, to be forgiven of our sins and to share in heavenly eternal live with him. He is always waiting for us to reach out to him. He will help us if we will but ask him. We should take advantage of it.

Prayer: Thank you for loving me, for forgiving me, and most important of all for dying for me.
