No Easy Way Out

DSC_0693Things that cannot be avoided, things we have to grin and bear; hardships, difficulties, trials and tribulations

Most of our lives are about proving something, either to us or to someone else. Author Unknown

The best way out of a difficulty is through it. Will Rogers

There’s no easy quick way out, we’re going to have to live through our whole lives, win, lose, or draw. Walt Kelly

There are obstacles, duties or tasks that are always standing in our way; things that cannot be avoided. We cannot go around, under or over them. We can hem and haw, stall, delay and make excuses, but whatever lies before us will not go away. There are just some things for which there is no easy way out.

No one can live life for us. Life’s rules mandate each of us has to live our own life. Some try to find short cuts; taking the easy way out or try get by with the barest minimum. We can try to shirk responsibilities, hide under the carpet, vegetate, look the other way, hiding our heads in the sand or any of a vast away of avoidance activities. In the end, some things we must do for ourselves. There is no easy way out. No matter what we do to try to cheat or trick our way through, we will not succeed or get by with it; whatever we try to avoid, will only come back to us at another time or in another format.

If we had the ability to be a third party observer of all our thoughts and actions we would see, realize and perhaps learn to do a better job of living life more proactively. We would learn that ignorance is no excuse, there are no true shortcuts, no such thing as something for nothing, no pain no gain and so many more universal truths that cannot be shortchanged. We would learn that we would be better to roll up our sleeves, get our feet wet, and grin and bear whatever comes our way and whatever life requires. There is a classic hymn called The Lonesome Valley which tells us that we have to walk the lonesome valley and we have to walk it by ourselves. The message is that are some things we just have to do and we have to do them whether we want to or not. There is no easy way out. It is something that Life requires and we must answer the call one way or another.

Life has to be engaged head on. In the things that are most important there are no shortcuts. We need to learn, grow, becoming wiser and more capable. The payoff is getting and enjoying more of what life has to offer.

Challenge: The attitude with which you approach your daily challenges has much to do with your success or lack of success. Life tends to give you what you expect. Generally, the more effort you put into things the better will be the results. Complaining, whining, excuse making and all other such avoidance techniques do not produce acceptable results. You must engage, step forward and take on those things they require your attention.

Wisdom: It always looks so easy to solve problems by taking the path of least resistance. What looks like the easy road turns out to be the hardest and cruelest. Winston Churchill

Spiritual: (NIV)

To the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness. Ecclesiastes 2:26

You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. Hebrews 10:36

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1

God knows why we are here and what it is that life is supposed to teach us. Most of us believe it is a preparation for something bigger and better. It is a teaching and proving experience that must be lived in order to get the most from it. It is like an obstacle course or an endurance course. It is a marathon. Trying to avoid it and minimize it is not the answer. We will shortchange ourselves if we do. We must trust God to guide us through it.

Prayer: Help me to trust you to guide and teach me. May my faith and confidence continue to grow.
