Consciousness

1stqtr07 058Mental awareness, conscious control as compared to subconscious control

There is no coming into consciousness without pain…  Carl Jung

All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think, we become.  Buddha

All that befalls man, all that is done by him, all that comes from him, happens as a result of his state of consciousness…  Darwin Gross

It is our consciousness that provides our humanity. Without it we are not any different than any other species in the animal kingdom. The more truly conscious we become, the more we think, aspire and the more we grow. Our instinctive, primitive, and selfish nature resides our subconscious or ‘unconscious.’ It is here our universe  is “all about me”, the world revolving around us. A primary motive is to placate and satisfy ourselves. This is where we have various issues associated with image, esteem, needs and so forth. This is where we find our insecurities, doubts and fears. We must develop our consciousness more fully in order to take charge of our life.

Our consciousness is our thinking side. It is our reasoning domain. It is here we search for meaning and purpose. It is in this realm where we begin to separate ourselves from circumstances, trials, tribulations, and all the things that happen to us on the outside. Our consciousness allows us to be in control from the inside-out. We realize that we have the ability as well as the responsibility to choose how we react or respond to all that confronts us at all times. As we become increasingly aware of our ability to be conscious and in control rather than subconscious, we start approaching life more proactively from a foundation of meaning, values and purpose. We should be increasingly responsible, accountable and driven to make our life stand for something. We gain strength and understanding and begin to increasingly get in touch with such concepts as joy and happiness. This is where we begin to see that life is much more than things, possessions and the latest fads. Our consciousness allows us to open our eyes, hearts and minds to conscious choices.

The path of personal growth and development in many ways is synonymous with developing and increasing our consciousness. In many ways it is an on-going awakening. In some respects, the before and after effect is like the metamorphosis that changes a caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly. For some it is a very slow and gradual process while for others it is more like a light bulb that finally turns on.

There is a door to open or a bridge to cross for each of us. On the other side is a life waiting that promises to have more meaning, purpose, joy, and happiness.

Challenge:  A fuller and richer life awaits you. It is more journey than destination. You get there one step at a time, one day at a time, and one moment at a time. It requires becoming proactive, to living life from the inside out and consciously making better decisions. It requires escaping the confines of your comfort zone, opening your eyes and mind, and leaving the status quo. Your destiny awaits. A life of meaning and purpose awaits you.

Spiritual: (NIV)

And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight.  Philippians 1:9

The path of righteousness is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.  Proverbs 4:12

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.. Philippians 4:7

As we develop our consciousness, we strive more for truth, meaning, and purpose. God is waiting to show us the way, but will not force himself on us. He gives us freedom of choice. If we are truly seeking truth, we will find him in the process. He will help us to develop the talents and abilities within us. As a result we will find ourselves living life with different perspectives and with more meaning and purpose.

Prayer: Help my eyes, my heart, and mind to ever be opened to the better life that you provide.
