By preserving over all obstacles and distractions, one may unfailingly arrive at his chosen goal or destination. Christopher Columbus
Most of us know how to persevere. We have an instinctive quality to persevere. It is something we do from the time that we are born until we die. Each stage of life requires perseverance: birth, childhood, teenage years, young adulthood, middle age, and senior adulthood all require their degree of struggles. Life comes with hardships and misfortunes. The more determined and steadfast we become, the more we rise above our circumstances and struggles. Our will and spirit must be constantly tested and strengthened in order for us to get the most out of our lives. This requires perseverance.
If we were never to experience any hardships or obstacles, we would never grow to our potential. Events that develop perseverance are stepping stones to be crossed and tests to be endured as we continue to move toward maturity and wisdom. Trials and tribulations are very necessary in we are to do very much with our lives. Without them we would be very weak, inexperienced and ineffective. It is the good and the bad of life that molds us into what we become. It is perhaps the bad or the difficult things that actually create the most growth. It is not so much that we should look forward to hardships and difficulties, but it the perseverance and determination that it takes and that we develop that stretches our boundaries and abilities. This is where much of our maturity and our wisdom come from.
A good example of persevering through the hardships of life is the early pioneers. They continuously migrated into unsettled lands and away from civilization, built new homes, and persevered through untold hardships. Some moved by choice, others by force. They endured the difficulties and obstacles of starting over, usually only with the clothes on their back and little else, to pursue new lives. These people did what they had to do, whatever came their way, they either succeeded or died in the process of trying. Many of us descend from these type individuals.
Being able to persevere through difficulties is a greatly desired strength of character. Successful living is largely a matter of being determined, focused and willing to persevere whatever life requires of us. There is not much that can stop us if we are committed to our purpose no matter what stands in our way. Perseverance is one of the important keys to our success.
Challenge: The stronger your perseverance, the better you are at doing and accomplishing. Perseverance is a tool that will cause you to grow and become a better person. Think of places in your life where perseverance, not quitting, or refusing to give up, helped you succeed. Think of something that challenges your will and spirit to succeed. Here is an opportunity to use your ability to persevere to success. You do not fail unless you give up.
Wisdom: It is interesting to notice how some minds seem almost to create themselves, springing up under every disadvantage, and working their solitary but irresistible way through a thousand obstacles. Washington Irving
But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. Matthew 14:13
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7
I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13
The Lord will provide everything we need in order to persevere the trials and tribulations of life. He wants us to succeed, not fail. The tests, hardships, and difficulties that constantly confront us causes us to grow wiser and more mature. Many believe that all that happens in this life prepares us for the next life. God is our heavenly father. He loves us and wants the best for us. He will not let us falter, He is trying to get us to grow and prosper.
Prayer: Help me to keep my eyes on you as I try to persevere through the hard things in my life.
