Self-Fulfilling Prophecy

2006 073What we think about tends to happen; we manifest our expectations; we ten to get what we expect

Whatever we expect with confidence becomes our own self-fulfilling prophecy. Brian Tracy

We are always paid for our suspicion by finding what we suspect. Thoreau

Treat a man as he is, he will remain so. Treat a man the way he can be and ought to be, and he will become as he can be and should be. Goethe

There is an adage admonishing us to be careful for what we wish for. There is wisdom in this. Many believe that if we spend too much time worrying about the bad that may happen; dreading but expecting the undesirable; then we will likely get exactly that, bad things.

There have been many stories about the proverbial “finding the genie in a bottle.” The genie is released and the person is granted three wishes. The person wishes carelessly and thoughtlessly. It was not what he thought it would be; often wasting a second wish to reverse what he wished for the first time. The morale is that we must be careful for what we wish. It may well come to pass. If we do not guard and carefully structure our thoughts, especially our creative thoughts toward things that are good and proper, we may well regret what we create. It often comes to pass. If we are not careful we may end up wishing into creation bad situations and circumstances. A well know proverb says that as a man thinketh he is. It is dangerous and foolish to think unwise thoughts. It can easily be self-fulfilling. Our subconscious tries very hard to create whatever it is we think about.

Human kind is wonderfully and magnificently made. We are endowed with creative powers. What we think, imagine or believe; can be turned into reality. In this sense we have god-like powers. Throughout the ages, our creative powers have been used for both good and bad. We respect and honor those who have used their creative powers for good, such as Martin Luther King, Jr., Gandhi and Mother Teresa. There are those who used their powers to create something from nothing, such as the Wright Brothers, Thomas Edison and Bill Gates. Others have used their creative powers to create and manifest evil such as Hitler, Stalin, and Saddam Hussein.

If we knew how powerful we really are, we would be much better stewards of our thought processes and creative powers. We would be careful in harnessing and utilizing our powers to improve and enhance the quality of our lives. There are those who have learned to do this. They create the reality they wish to have. We should learn to be more responsible and accountable in how and what we think. We should think better thoughts.

Challenge: You are sitting at the controls of a powerful creating machine. It runs automatically and without supervision. If you do not pay attention and monitor what it is doing, it may well create and bring all kinds of havoc, turmoil, difficulty and undesirable circumstances into your life. Knowing this, it seems foolish to not harness your creative powers to do good and wonderful things instead of creating harmful and destructive ones.

Wisdom: Dream lofty dreams, and as you dream, so you shall become. Your vision is the promise of what you shall one day be; your ideal is the prophecy of what you shall at last unveil. James Allen

Spiritual: (NIV)

You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. Psalm 128:2

If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. Matthew 21:22

For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:…..Proverbs 23:7

Eventually, we will be given the knowledge and understanding of why God put us here and what we are supposed to have done with all the talents and abilities he gave us. It seems likely that we are expected to be good stewards and use all of our creative possibilities to make the world better. We are to become the best we can become. In fact, that is exactly what the Bible tells us to do. God is in control, we should never forget that.

Prayer: Help me to become a better steward. Help me to be everything you designed me to be.
