Having drive is like an insatiable hunger, there is no way to satisfy it. Randall Burkhalter
Enthusiasm releases the drive to carry you over obstacles and adds significance to all you do. Norman Vincent Peale
The man who can drive himself further once the effort gets painful is the man who will win. Roger Bannister
Drive is an energy force that is incompatible with complacency. It is a hunger that needs satisfaction. It gives us that “little extra” horsepower and desire that causes us to push forward and try even harder. We are not satisfied with where we are and want to go further.
Our lives can be described as headed: backward, forward, or stationary. A major concern should be what percentage of the time our lives can be described as stationary or stagnant. The means we are not going anywhere. We are stagnant. There is no drive, momentum or ambition; those things that pushes us to move forward. There should always be some desire to go farther forward; something that compels. The concept of the word, “drive”, implies that we are self-propelled, and pressed to move forward.
If something other than ourselves is that which drives us, are we truly driven; or are we being pushed. As soon as the pusher stops pushing, will we come to a stop. We must become our own energy source. When we are being driven we are headed somewhere and are striving to get there. We should want to do better, get better, learn more, overcome our weaknesses, and to live up to our potentials. The word, “drive” is a good mental concept of the force we should be exerting to keep us on the road, to keep us moving, and what it takes to keep our minds on our journey. Those without drive are too stationary; often lacking a sense of purpose or meaning, ambition or goals. They have no particular destination in mind.
Some of us must fight apathy. Life acts upon us rather than our being proactive and acting upon it. If we are “too” stationary, we become victims of Life happening to us. We should be our own potter and go shape our life into what we want it to be. Each of us is engaged in the journey of Life. We are unique with infinite possibilities as to what we might do with the days, weeks, months, and years in front of us. A good healthy sense of drive and ambition helps us to achieve more of our potential. Instead of being a passenger, and letting others do our driving, we need to do our own driving. Instead of being a tourist, we should be our own tour director.
Challenge: Do you have a driving force in your life? Are you really proactively involved in your personal growth and striving to do more with your life? Are you a passenger or the driver? Are you experiencing life as “victim” or “victor”? Are you stationary or going forward? Take the wheel and start steering. Take over the controls and start directing your own life. You must decide where you want to go before you can get there.
Wisdom: Success is almost totally dependent upon drive and persistence. The extra energy required to make another effort or try another approach is the secret of winning. Denis Waitley
I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. II Timothy 1:7
Many of us believe that this life is preparing us for a future life. We should learn and experience all this life has to offer. We should strive to use all the talents and abilities we have been given and become all we can become. God did not make us to fail. He made us to succeed. We are made in his image and have some of Him in us. He is our Heavenly Father, beyond perfect in every way. What father would not want his children to succeed at life?
Prayer: Thank you for all that you have given me. Help me to become all that I can become.
