A man who does not think for himself does not think at all. Oscar Wilde
Don’t compromise yourself. You are all you’ve got. Janis Joplin
Remember always that you not only have the right to be an individual, you have an obligation to be one. Eleanor Roosevelt
Humanity is comprised of billions of people, every one being uniquely made. There are millions, if not billions of variables, that come together to make each of us truly “one of a kind”. The specific mold or creative process that made us is used one time and never repeated. We do have problems putting our “uniqueness” in perspective. We tend to be frightened by it more than we are thankful for it. Most of do not like being different.
Who has not asked “why am I here”? Dwelling on this subject it is easy to be overwhelmed by the implications of this question. If there were a way to measure “raw and innate potential”, the majority of us have the necessary ingredients to become, achieve, and accomplish wonderful and great things in life. We can become more than we can ever imagine. We are only limited by our own imagination and determination. Each of us is a potential work of art wait to be created. Many would say that we are limited by our environment and circumstances. This is a huge variable, but not an absolute limitation or impossible obstacle, there are many who achieve greatness and overcome the worst of circumstances. Our life can be compared to the blank pages of a book yet to be written. We can choose to be our own biographer or we can leave the chronicling of our life to the whims and dictates of life’s twists and turns. In other words, we can be proactive or we can be passive. We can act or be acted upon.
Most of us use very little of the great and wonderful “stuff” we have been provided. Our individuality is uniquely our own. It should be celebrated and cherished. Our life starts as an empty palette waiting for the brush strokes that paint our self-portrait. It is a life-long process. If we are only inspired to paint a “stick-man” self-portrait, we become only a stick-man real-life version of ourselves. If we are inspired for something better, we create the better version by the time and attention that goes into painting a self- portrait that becomes a one of a kind “work of art”. Our individuality gives us the freedom to become whatever we chose to become. We should celebrate our individuality by becoming the one of a kind, wonderful person that waits inside each of us.
Challenge: Are you celebrating your individuality or are you ashamed and hiding it in the closet? Your palette is waiting for brush strokes. Become a master artist and paint the self-portrait that is the work of art lying inside you! Give it expression. You have wonderful ingredients, potentialities, talents, gifts; everything necessary to become the wonderful person you are meant to be. It is your responsibility to develop your true potential.
Wisdom:The really valuable thing in the pageant of human life seems to me not the state but the creative, sentient individual, the personality; it alone creates the noble and the sublime. Einstein
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. James 1:5
To the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness. Ecclesiastes 2:26
Be Joyful always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 2 Thessalonians 5: 16
We tend to forget that God made each and everyone to be unique and one of a kind. An old adage says that when God made us he threw away the mold. The point is that God knows what He is doing. He made each of us for a purpose. We have talents and abilities we have been given. This life prepares us for a future life. Life without God is like a fish that finds itself out of water. We will struggle and suffer an eventually die. We need God.
Prayer: Help me to use the individuality You have given me to become that which You made me to be.
