The biggest adventure you can take is to live the life of your dreams. Oprah Winfrey
It is only in adventure that some people succeed in knowing themselves – in finding themselves. Andre Gide
Adventure is not outside man; it is within. David Grayson
Those who have discovered that Life can be a great adventure get more from it than those who bury their head in the sand. Some have not learned, “We get out of life what we put into it”. The more we grab the moment, relish the uncertainties and seize the opportunities to experience and explore; the more we learn to enjoy the challenges. We do not know what lies around the corner or what happens tomorrow. Life is endless possibilities and surprises. The adventure should be confronted with an air of expectation and confident anticipation.
In many respects we take life’s events much too personally, are too easily offended, and get our feathers too easily ruffled. Things that happen to us do not occur to get us; they are occurring because of many factors. We often are in the way of things that just happen to include us. The majority of our difficulties are caused by us either directly or indirectly. We are too prone to paranoia and must try to resist “victimhood” status. Our choice is to approach life as victim or adventurer, loser or winner or coward or champion.
Many minimize their exposure to Life by living in a self-imposed fortress called the Comfort Zone. They are afraid of Life. Imagine Life as being laid out upon a great game board. Looking at it from above, we would be able to see many twists and turns, forks in the road, events and circumstances, and all the many possible choices we can make. If we look ahead to the end section, we see the infinite possible outcomes of our possible choices. We can gaze back to where we are and see the various decisions we have made and the present result of the decisions we have made. Our victories, failures, mistakes, setbacks, learning experiences, regrets, moments of happiness and joy are some of the results, directly and indirectly of Life’s ongoing adventure.
Our present life is the adventure we have chosen. It has had its ups and downs, good and bad, successes and failures, and countless experiences. These things are what make it the adventure it is. The better our attitude and approach, the more we will find victory as a conqueror rather than be defeated and be a victim. We should not live in fear; but in confidence and with great anticipation of what lies around the next corner.
Challenge: Do you want to live life as a victim or as a conqueror? Do you want to be a passenger or the driver? These are decisions you must make. You can act or be acted upon. You can be passive or proactive. All this is basic, but is profoundly critical. Be proactive. Take charge. Be an adventurer. Make a determined decision to take charge of your life, make the most of it. Your new and improved great adventure is waiting for you.
Wisdom: Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly. Robert Kennedy
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matt: 6:33
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. Romans 8:37
Our Heavenly Father wants us to live this life. It should be a daily adventure. We should look forward to it with great faith and hope, not fear and dread. God does not want us to be a coward. He wants us to have confidence, strength and courage. Those who live in fear do nothing more than the minimum. Those who have confidence take risks, step out and take on the challenges. They are the ones who find life to be a rewarding experience.
Prayer: Give me the strength and the wisdom to live this life proactively. Help me to live the adventure.
