To desire is to obtain; to aspire is to achieve. James Allen
Success is focusing the full power of all you are on what you have a burning desire to achieve. Wilfred Peterson
When you discover your mission, you will feel its demand. It will fill you with enthusiasm and a burning desire to get to work on it. W. C. Stone
The difference between merely wanting something and having a burning desire for it is often the difference between failure and success. The energy behind burning desires greatly exceeds and trumps the energy behind wants. As a successful living principle, learning how to harness and use the power of a burning desire is one way to greatly increase our ability to get more things done and accomplished. It supercharges us.
If we sat down and made a list of things we want, the list may be fairly long and substantial. After finishing this list, if we were asked to make a second list of those things that are burning desires; our second list would likely be more concise. The “want” list is those things we pay lip service to. Burning desires are things we are more seriously committed to, engaged in and pursuing. It takes serious mental energy to have a burning desire; that is why our list may only contain one item or not any. To how many things are we are really willing to commit our time and our energy. Burning desires are what we think and day dream about. They are the things upon which we become fixated. They are compulsions or feelings that might be compared to falling in love. All of our focus and thought is directed toward the object of our affection. It is something we must have or do.
Whenever wants become burning desires, they move to the top of our priority list. The probability of their success is increased. They now have the potential to be supported by our tremendous creative energies. We will now embrace and get behind them. They become part of us. Clement Stone said that whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe; can be achieved. This power, which everyone has access to, has been used by thousands throughout history to accomplish great and wonderful things; individuals such as Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, Martin Luther King, Jr., Thomas Edison, the Wright Brothers, Henry Ford, and many more.
It may be accurate to say, until a want truly becomes a “burning desire”, it is still in the wish stage. It is still in the brewing or formative stages of our creative processes. We should be more aware and understanding of the power and possibilities associated with burning desires. We should learn to use them to our advantage.
Challenge: Chances are some of your most noteworthy accomplishments have had the power of a burning desire behind them. You would never have been successful had you not developed a burning desire to get them done. Is there a goal or task that has moved to the top of your priority list? Is it at burning desire status? Does something need to be elevated to become a burning desire? You have this tremendous power available to you.
Wisdom: There is one quality which one must possess to win, and that is definiteness of purpose, the knowledge of what one wants, and a burning desire to possess it. Napoleon Hill
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. Mark 11:24
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7
When our wants and desires line up with God’s will for us, we will be empowered with increased strength and vitality to get more things done in our life. We will be assured we are doing what we should be doing and with that comes increased energy, conviction, confidence and faith that we are headed where we should be headed. We do not have to worry or fret, we can have confidence that everything will work out for good.
Prayer: May my desires and wants become compatible with your desires and goals for me.
