Life holds so many simple blessings, each day bringing its own individual wonder. John McLeod
The hardest arithmetic to master is that which enables us to count our blessings. Eric Hoffer
A good memory is one that can remember the day’s blessings and forget the day’s troubles. Author Unknown
There is a difference between having blessings and actually being aware of them. In some ways a blessing is wasted if it is not also recognized. Many of us are very blessed, but are ungrateful. It is a wonder that our blessings are not confiscated. Perhaps it would be more just if unrecognized blessings were removed from the ungrateful and given to those whom would be grateful to have them.
It is easy to rattle off all the things not going well in our lives; troubles, difficulties, and our trials and tribulations. We find it easy to complain, moan and whine of all the ways we are mistreated, taken advantage of, or how unlucky we are. It is easy to get caught up in self pity, feeling sorry for ourselves, and crying “Why Me?” Sometimes bad and undesirable things happen. They happen to everyone.
The truth is that more times than not all we have to do is look around and be aware that often worse things are happening to people all around us. There is always someone who is having a “tougher go” of it than we are. We tend to take for granted all the good that has happened and is happening to us. It is easy for us to be very conscious of those things not going well, but difficult to be mindful of all the things that have and are going well. If an accounting were to be performed, most of us would find that when it comes to blessings and good fortune, there is much further to fall down than there is for us to go higher up. A graphic way to do this is to consider all the people in the world. What percentage has it worse than we do? Why are we more deserving than anyone else? Do we deserve to be blessed or is it more a matter of just being fortunate?
A very healthy and desirable quality to seek is to spend more time and effort being thankful and grateful. Some believe that the more grateful we are, the more blessings that come our way. Being grateful and thankful indicates we have a good inner core and are headed down the right path. We should stop feeling sorry for ourselves and spend more time concerned and empathizing with those who have not been blessed as much as we have.
Challenge: Today is a good day to “Count you blessing and name them one by one”. There are a lot of bad things happening to millions, if not billions, of people throughout the world. Chances are you have it pretty good. Be thankful for the good in your life. Do not take good things for granted. If there is a sense of justice on how blessings are bestowed, being ungrateful may be sufficient cause to have them removed.
Wisdom: Life holds so many simple blessings, each day bringing its own individual wonder. John McLeod
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3: 5, 6
When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider: God has made the one as well as the other. Ecclesiastes 7:14
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1
God is our heavenly father. He is the perfect parent in every way and in ways we cannot even comprehend. As the perfect parent, He wishes us to experience life to the fullest, to grow, and to become everything He designed us to be. With Him in our lives, guiding and enabling us, we are more likely to make significant progress in reaching our potential. Without God in our lives we will fall woefully and inadequately short. He wishes and wants to bless us.
Prayer: Help be to be aware of the many ways I am blessed and then to be thankful.
