DSC_0693Quality of being good; moral excellence, virtue; kindness, generosity

Goodness is the only investment that never fails. Thoreau

How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a weary world. Shakespeare

Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world. Desmond Tutu

Our parents very likely taught and encouraged us to be good. We hopefully are teaching or have taught our kids to be good. However, when we would look around us it seems we do not see as much goodness as we once did. There needs to be much more goodness in this world than there presently is. We all need to pitch in.

In order for us as individuals to be all we are capable of being, “goodness” needs to be very integrated into our purpose for living. We should all be ambassadors for the spreading of goodness. Apparently many people have not been taught the virtue of goodness. It is up to those who know what it means to be good and to spread it around. It needs to be presented and displayed in such a way that those who do not know goodness as they should, when they see the better quality of life that a “good” person displays, will want to have some goodness in their lives as well. The spreading and teaching of goodness is worthy of all of our best efforts.

There is definitely not the emphasis on goodness there once was. It has become endangered. We who know what it is, now has it on our shoulders to really exhibit it in our lives.  We should always remember the person who does good for others is likely the one who gains more than the person who is recipient of that goodness. We are always blessed and enriched by being good. It is up to all of us to be the best examples and teachers of the quality of goodness. The example we set has far reaching ramifications to loved ones, friends, and even strangers. We can be a good or a bad example. Everything we say or do influences those around us. Let us be a good example. We never know how our actions might influence others in either positive or negative ways.

We as people tend to rise or fall to the quality of the standards and principles that are set before us. In todays’ world the standards are not what they once were and the world suffers for it. It is up to all of us to do our part in making this world a better place. Let us all do our part in spreading goodness whenever we can.

Challenge:  Do you make a conscious effort of practicing kindness and goodness on a daily basis? You likely have daily opportunities to do kind and good acts. Be aware of your opportunities. Smiles and words of kindness are simple but so effective. Try to be conscious of doing something kind and good for someone everyday. Make it a new habit. Be an ambassador of spreading goodness. You will be much the better for it.

Wisdom: Goodness is about character – integrity, honesty, kindness, generosity, moral courage, and the like. More than anything else, it is about how we treat other people. Dennis Prager

Spiritual: (NIV)

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.  Isaiah 40:31

Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.   Psalm 31:24

I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.   Philippians 4:13

We are all witness and examples to others in the way we live our lives. Are we good or bad at being witnesses and examples? People tend to do what is popular and in vogue. Let us all be practitioners of doing good. God is the source of all goodness. He will teach us and enable us to become the best that we can become. We will always be limited in the amount of goodness we can display on our own. With God there is no limitation.

Prayer:  Help me to be your ambassador of kindness and goodness.
