The Future

168Tomorrow, next year; a time yet to happen, that which we are moving toward

When all else is lost, the future still remains. Christian Nestell Bovee

The future is purchased by the present.  Samuel Johnson

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.  Eleanor Roosevelt

The future begins one moment from now and consists of the time existing from now until our last breath. Our future is in our hands and has not been written. Many of the details of our futures results from the things we do or do not do from this moment onward. Our future can become mostly what we want it to be.

There are elements of the future which are very much in our control and there are elements outside our control. We are wise to address ourselves to the things we have influence over and not to waste our time and energy on the things we cannot control. Let us be smart and concentrate our efforts where it does us the most good.

The future is being determined by the thoughts we are having at this moment. We are the author of our own autobiographies as we go forward. We are responsible for creating our futures. If we are slipping and sliding and not developing and growing, our future prognosis is not as good as it could be. If we are working to better ourselves, gaining wisdom and understanding and developing our innate potential; the future is pretty rosy. If we are pessimistic, lethargic, complacent and not becoming the person we could be; our future is less than it could be. If we are optimistic, positive, and growing into a better us; our future will positively be better. We create our future by our thoughts, visions and actions today. What can we do with all the locked up potential inside us?

Changing our thoughts and actions for the better will very likely change our future forecast for the better. Think good thoughts, have a better future. Thinking undesirable thoughts likely worsens our future. Do good things; have a better future. We do this by one thought and one action at a time. We build our future by our daily successes. Our future largely is determined by what we daily determine to make of it. The success or lack of success in our future circumstances will not be so much determined by external conditions, but by our internal thought processes. Our mental attitude, our basic approach to life, and who we are inside; this is where our future success lies. Life will be rich and rewarding not because of outside things but because of what exists inside us.

Challenge: How important is your growth and development? How important is your future? Grade yourself for your level of commitment to being a better you. Are you growing at a rate that is appropriate for your potential? This affects all aspects of your life, your present as well as your future. Open up the door and walk out of your comfort zone. Commit to living up to your potential. Happiness and success are out there waiting for you.

Wisdom: Be of good cheer. Do not think of today’s failures, but of the success that my come tomorrow. You have set yourselves a difficult task, but you will succeed if you persevere; and you will find a joy in overcoming obstacles. Remember, no effort that we make to attain something beautiful is ever lost.  Helen Keller

Spiritual: (NIV):

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33

Humility and the fear of the Lord bring wealth and honor and life. Proverbs 22:4

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; Proverbs 3:5

Part of our humanity is to be concerned about what the future has in store for us. It is human nature to worry about our future circumstances. The Bible tells us that those who have a personal relationship with God and trust in Him can be assured of their futures being safe and secure. What would life today be like knowing that our future is taken care of? We can know this. God is ready, able and willing to give us this confidence and security.

Prayer: Help me to put my faith and confidence in You. May your love and light shine through me.
