I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it. Thomas Jefferson
A quality that is in short supply today is a strong work ethic. We are not driven to work as hard as perhaps we were in the past. Having a strong worth ethic has always been a very reliable predictor of success.
There are many who are poorly motivated to work; having very little work ethic, ambition and personal drive. Employers cannot find enough good workers to fill jobs. A major controversy today is the phenomenon of illegal immigrants filling the jobs that others do not want. Many immigrants are extremely motivated to work hard and to get ahead. They come from backgrounds that have little or no opportunity. Because of their different perspective, many are extremely motivated to work hard for both themselves and their families.
Employers are always looking for the best employees. When they evaluate candidates they consider many factors. One of the things that they are looking for is “work ethic”. It is an indicator of strong inner drives and other desirable traits. It is manifested in people who take pride in themselves and want to be known as someone who does. These people are convinced that they will be rewarded for their hard work and are prepared to pay the price to reap the rewards. These motivated employees will help their employers be successful in what they do.
Many do understand that we are really and truly work for ourselves. We must hold ourselves accountable, and maintain our own high standards, ideally higher than the standards of our employers. These type individuals will usually find the best jobs and will usually create their own success. Employers need strong, self-directed, motivated, and conscientious employees, now more than ever.
There are never any guarantees that things are always fair and honest, and that the best person always comes out on top. Generally, those that deserve success will be the ones achieving it. Employers always need good employees to be able to achieve their own personal success. They are looking for the right people to help them. The vast majority of the time, those with strong work ethics will be the ones succeeding, getting promoted and making the most money. Equally important, if not more so, is what a strong work ethic does psychologically. It will provide a sense of self worth, pride, and confidence. It serves us well and help in many aspects of Life.
Challenge: Take a moment and evaluate your work ethic. If you were your own boss, would you continue to employ you, or would you fire yourself? Where are you in regards to comparing your effort versus your potential? Things are not likely to get much better unless you start giving your absolute best effort. Your life and your success are largely dependent upon your efforts. The harder you work, the more success you will have.
Wisdom: Nothing happens by itself…it will come your way, once you understand that you have to make it come your way, by your own exertions. Ben Stein
I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13
Humility and the fear of the Lord bring wealth and honor and life. Proverbs 22:4
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:13
Success is an attitude. Successful living comes from accepting and adopting an attitude of continuous growth and development. Using the talents and abilities God gives us and seeking a right relationship with Him will be rewarded with life becoming better in every aspect imaginable. God empowers us to find true success. It may not always be in the way we thought it would be, but it will be the kind of success that He uniquely designed for us.
Prayer: Help me to hold myself accountable, to have high standards, and to do what I am capable of.
