Proper portions, not overly leaning one way or the others, not over doing any one aspect of live
Work, love and play are the great balance wheels of man’s being. Orison Swett Marden
Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance and order and rhythm and harmony. Thomas Merton
We need to maintain a proper balance in our life by allocating the time we have. There are occasions where saying no is the best time management practice there is. Catherine Pulsifer
Proper balance is needed. We need to keep good perspective of all the things that makes up our life. It is like baking a cake; it needs a proper mix of various ingredients, put together in the right quantities and order, under proper conditions, time and temperature. It takes a proper mix of things to make a beautiful and delicious cake.
No matter how we look at it, our life is very complex. We must have a good mix of inner and outer selves. We must love and respect the self to be well-balanced. If we go overboard or “under-balanced”, we have personality disorder. We may have a good side and bad side, a Jekyll and a Hyde. We have to keep them in balance and under control. It requires time and attention to maintain balance and well-being. There is need to balance the physical and mental. This means we devote our efforts to working on developing our minds as well as our bodies. We need to exercise, maintain, and develop our minds and our bodies to be in harmony with each other.
Balance is a juggling act. Our lives are filled with so many needs and demands: For too many the big three are family, work, and possessions or money. There are many things to balance: standard of living versus income, retirement versus children’s education, credit cards versus cash, debt versus debt-free, high paying job versus well liked job and many more. There is also the quantity versus quality issue. Do we want our lives to be centered on the quality of our living or the quantity of the things we do? Life’s issues and needs are so seemingly endless. It sometimes becomes mind-boggling to keep a proper perspective and any sense of balance.
Proper balance is very tough. Mental health and well-being is at stake as individuals and our families and society hang in the balance. There are very few black and white answers. We need to throw into this mix a need for meaning and purpose; something to live for and to believe in. Being out of balance is a complex problem that is difficult to diagnose, much less to solve. We are responsible to find our own answers as to what constitutes a balanced life for us. It is something that warrants our time and focused attention on a regular and ongoing basis.
Challenge: One of the most important things you can do is to take control. Control life instead of being controlled by it. This is the most important step. Become the driver instead of the passenger, the wind instead of the leaf. Determine what is most important; determine and commit to the proper values and principles. Lay a firm foundation. Draw a line in the sand, stand firm. Turn the tide and take charge. Be proactive not passive.
Wisdom: Happiness depends on how you balance your life’s equations between positive and negative experiences and attitudes. Kall
The fruit of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever. Isaiah 32:17
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. James 1:5
Life without God never produces a balanced life. This is an absolute and unmistakable truth. We were made in God’s image and have some of Him in us. If we choose to ignore this, we will never find harmony. When we answer God’s calling, we will begin finding a better balance. We start becoming what He intended us to be. Worldly ways lead to discord and confusion. God will lead us to peace, harmony, and joy. He gives us victory.
Prayer: Help me to find proper balance with all the demands of my life.
