Do we know what a “burning desire” is? Can we look back and remember some burning desires we have had. It is probably directly because of burning desires that we have had the accomplishment and achievements we have had during our lives. The difference that exists between having a burning desire and not having one is often the difference in being able to successfully complete big or major tasks and not completing them.

If we want to do all we can to maximize the likelihood, we will successfully complete a significant task we should insure we have a burning desire within us before we even take it on. Anything short of this may mean that we are not really committed to succeeding at this particular undertaking. The more complex and the more effort required, the more we may need a burning desire to be successful at it. The opposite of burning desire might be “lip service”. If we are only giving lip service to something we say we want to get done, it is not likely we will get it done. If we can turn our “lip service” into “burning desire” then the probability of our success rises significantly if not tremendously. Sometimes we have to “psyche” ourselves up to create a burning desire. We have to get creative to achieve a mental attitude that is equivalent to a burning desire. We have to use self-motivation and self-talk to get ourselves thinking in terms that we will do whatever it takes to get a task accomplished. We will not allow anything to stop us. If we fall down, run into obstacles, have others mock us or ridicule us, none of these things will matter. We have our mind and our eyes set on achieving a certain outcome and we will not stop until we have done so. This defines the nature of a burning desire.

Burning desire is a type of energy source that empowers us to achieve in such a way we are all but unstoppable. Many great achievements can be attributed to movements or individuals who utilized burning desires to get it done. Martin Luther King, Jr; Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Thomas Edison, the Wright Brothers are only a few examples of individuals who had burning desires to get something done. Great things that are being done are most likely being done by people with burning desires.

Challenge: Do you have something really important you want to accomplish? If so, a part of your preparation for getting started should be creating a burning desire to get it done. Anything short of this likely means you are not sufficiently committed to doing what it takes to be succeed. You may be wasting your time and effort starting a project if you are not committed in such a way as this. Learn to use “burning desire” to increase your success.

Wisdom: There is one quality which one must possess to win, and that is definiteness of purpose, the knowledge of what one wants, and a burning desire to possess it. Napoleon Hill

The fruit of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever. Isaiah 32:17

You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. Hebrews 10:36

I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13

Life is full of challenges. There are trials and tribulations confronting us. There are always goals, tasks and opportunities to deal with. Many dynamics and changing variables come into and out of our lives. How we deal with all these things has much to do with the quality of our life. The more motivated we are to do well the better we will do. If we have a personal relationship with God we will do much, much better than if we do not.

Prayer: Help me to deal with all the changing circumstances in my life. Please help, guide and direct me.
