Most of us know what it is to persevere. We have an instinctive trait to “persevere”. It is something we must do from the day we are born until the time we die. All stages of our lives do require degrees of perseverance: birth, childhood, teenage years, young adulthood, middle age, and senior adulthood have their unique struggles. Life comes with hardships and misfortunes. The more determined and steadfast we learn to become, the more we rise above our circumstances and struggles. Our will and spirit must get constantly tested and broadened in order for us to get more out of Life. This requires perseverance which in turn creates learning experiences and wisdom.
If we were never to experience any hardships or obstacles, we would never reach our potential. Life events do develop perseverance and are stepping stones we must cross to continue to move toward maturity and wisdom. Trials and tribulations are very necessary if we are to grow very much in our lives. Without them we would be weak, inexperienced and ineffective. It is the good and the bad of life that molds us into what we become. It is perhaps the bad or the difficult things that actually create the most growth. It is not so much that we should look forward to hardships and difficulties, but it the perseverance and determination that it takes and that we develop that stretches our boundaries and abilities. This is where much of our maturity and our wisdom develops.
A good example of persevering through the hardships of life are the early pioneers. They constantly migrated into unsettled lands, away from civilization, built new homes, and persevered through untold hardships. Some moved by choice, others by force. They endured the difficulties and obstacles of starting over, often only with the clothes on their back and little else, to pursue new lives. They did what they had to do, whatever came their way, they either succeeded or died in the process of trying. Many of us descend from these type individuals.
Persevering through difficulties is a great strength of character. Successful living is largely a matter of being determined, focused and persevering through whatever life requires. There is not much that can stop us if we are committed, no matter what gets in our way. Perseverance is one of the important keys to living a successful life.
Challenge: How good are you at persevering? The better you are the more you can do and accomplish. It is a tool that causes you to grow and become. Think of a success in your life where perseverance and not quitting, helped you succeed. What is there that it presently challenging your will and spirit. This is an opportunity to use persevere to create new successes. There is no failure unless you give up. Use your perseverance to succeed.
Wisdom: It is interesting to notice how some minds seem almost to create themselves, springing up under every disadvantage, and working their solitary but irresistible way through a thousand obstacles. Washington Irving
But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. Matthew 14:13
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7
I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13
God provides us everything we need in order to persevere the trials and tribulations of life. He wants us to succeed, not fail. Tests, hardships, and difficulties constantly confronting us causes us to grow wiser and more mature. Many believe all that happens in this life is in preparation for the next life. God is our Heavenly Father. He loves us and only wants the best for us. He will not let us falter, He wants us to be able to grow and prosper.
Prayer: Help me to keep my eyes on You as I try to persevere through the hard things in my life.
